Dear Mrs. Smith-Willis,
Thank you for traveling with me to Seattle. It was great to spend time with you. I love your blog and reading all the postings of your students. I know they missed you and will be so happy to see you tomorrow. Please tell them I said THANKS for sharing their teacher.

Welcome Back, Melissa!!
Dear Melissa,
Welcome home! I missed you and I can't wait to give you a hug!I am back from Seattle. I got home last night at about 11pm, so I am answering you from NJ this morning!
We had a terrific time and learned lots of new things. I saw lots of teachers of color and watched a beautiful Indian girl in the 11th grade doing a traditional Indian dance. She is a student at the Seattle Girls School. I will post pictures of her tomorrow. You will love it!
I am so glad you got to see your family in India. It must have been nice to see everyone. It is strange to have to go all the way to India to see your cousins from America! I felt the same way in Seattle! I saw lots of old friends from NYC that I have not seen in a long time! They are right across the river, and I had to go all they way out to Seattle to finally catch up with them! I saw friends I went to graduate school with and made lots of new friends too!
I will be back at school on Monday and I brought some little goodies for everyone in our class. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I'll see you tomorrow!
Love,
Ms. SW

Hi!
Dear Ms. Smith-Willis,
Hi! How are you doing? Are you back yet? Did you have fun at the conference in Seattle? We missed you, even though we had fun with Ms. Suma.
I got back from India on Tuesday. I got to see my grandmother and lots of other people in my family. I thought it was funny that I saw some of my aunts and uncles in India who live in America. I also ate custard apple and drank coconut water every day. I had fun on Thanksgiving. Did you? On the way back, I stopped in London and saw my baby cousin. She's cute.
See you soon!
Love,
Melissa

A VERY busy day 2!
Dear Class 1-SW,
Today was another busy day that began with a breakfast speaker. Then we went to more workshops which were really great! We got into groups called affinity groups where I was in a room with only African American teachers. I was in a big ballroom with over 400 brown teachers all talking about different ways to make our schools better.
After that, we went to lunch and we had a big break. That's when we went to the Seattle monorail and went to the Seattle Center where the Space Needle is. It was a short ride, and very fun. We have posted some pictures on the side so you can see the monorail and the space needle. It was 250 feet up and we could see all the way to the mountains. At the top of the space needle there are some letters on the ground. The space needle is a giant compass rose, so you can tell what direction you are looking in. It was very cool!
Then we went to the aquarium. It was a small aquarium compared to what I am used to, but they had lots of animals that are indiginous to the pacific coast. We saw lots of sea otters and fur seals. They are very cute and they are terrific swimmers. There were also lots of great coral reef fish in the aquarium. My favorites were some things I had never seen before, like the pinecone fish and the potbellied sea horse. We'll post those pictures on the blog too!
Then we went back for more workshops and on the way, Mrs. Euwer found the famous Pike's Market where they have a great flower store. They had the most beautiful flowers and I loved the Kale plants. We didn't have too much time for pictures, but we took a quickie of Mrs. Euwer at the shop before we had to rush back to go to the workshops.
This evening we had a dinner speaker who was really terrific. His name was Charles Olgetree. Now, I am back at my hotel room, getting ready to go to bed. But, first I need to pack up as much as I can because the conference is over tomorrow at 12:30 and we have to leave for the airport at 11am.
I'll be back on Monday morning! Hopefully it won't be as cold at home! See you soon!

We are traveling home tomorrow so I am packing up and getting everything ready to go. We leave here at 11am Seattle time and 2 pm NJ time.
I can't wait to see everyone on Monday! Happy weekend!

Hello to Clifton!
Hi Clifton!!
I was glad to get your blog. All is well out here. Yesterday was not too cold and today it is very cold. We are leaving tomorrow at about 11am to come home, but it will really be 2pm NJ time.
There is no snow in the city, but they tell us there is lots of snow in the suburbs. We have been to lots of meetings and we have had a great time. I have seen lots of terrific things and lots of old friends.
I miss you and I can't wait to see everyone on Monday!

Dear Mrs. Smith-Willis,
I hope you are having a great time and can get out to see some of the sights. We all miss you here, but we look forward to hearing all about your trip. I have been having some trouble posting a blog response on Mrs. Euwer's blog, so please tell her I am trying. I hope she is having a great time in beautiful Seattle.
I looks like your students and family are really joining in on the blog. I see Lloyd each morning at the front door and am getting very spoiled. I will miss his big smile and handshake when you return to driving him to school. I looks like the men in your family are surviving quite well!
Enjoy the rest of your trip, but I am afraid you and Mrs. Euwer will need a few days to recover and get back to a normal body time clock.
See you soon,
Mr. Corvino

Hi Jamie,
There is not enough snow to make a snowman. In the city where we are, there is NO snow at all. I guess it's all out in the suburbs by the schools, because everyone had a snowday! Some school choruses were supposed to sing for us today, but they all had a snow day, so only their school music teacher came. She sang us a song that I am going to have Mrs. Finn teach you all. It's called Lift E'vry Voice & Sing. My class learned it last year.
I know 4 of the girls from your sister's school. I taught 3 of them when they were in second grade. Remember, I used to teach at Kent Place. I saw them tonight when we went to pick up the Pingry students. I know Kristina, Kesi, Zayba and Brooke. They were having a good time too, but they were also really tired, like us!
Okay, no penguinos yet. Will try again tomorrow. See you soon!
Love,
MS. SW

An exciting first day!
Dear 1 SW,
Today was a VERY busy day and we are just getting back to our rooms. It's 9:23 Seattle time and 12:23 NJ time! Boy and I tired!
We started the day off with an opening meeting. They had Japanese drum players, a Native American family doing traditional dances and then a wonderful Native American speaker. After the speaker, there were some African dancers and then we went to some workshops until lunch time.
After lunch we went to more classes and workshops and then went back to hear another speaker. Before that speaker there was an Indian girl who is in the 11th grade who did a dance from India for us, followed by some girls who did traditional dances from Cambodia and then some American girls who did a hip hop play/dance for us. It was very, very good and we really enjoyed it all.
I have not gone to the aquarium yet, or the big market. I am going to try and get there tomorrow. We have so much to do and so little time!!! I wrote all of your postcards today and will put them in the mail in the morning. You should get them on Saturday or Monday!
Mrs. Euwer and I are seeing lots of giant Nutcracker statues around town. They are all over the city and they have different designs on them. We will take a few pictures of them so you can see them. In the meantime, I took a picture of my hotel room and the backpack they have given us filled with goodies.
More news tomorrow. No penguinos yet!!! I'm on the look out though...

Dear Mrs. Smith-Willis:
It sounds like you are having a good time in Seattle. Have you seen anything cool yet? Do you think it's going to snow again? Will you get a snow day? I have been doing lots and lots of homework since you have been away. Have you found any good lotions yet? And teas? Better go do some more homework. Love, Jack

How was your first day of the conference?
Hi Ms Smith-Willis
How was the conference today? Did you meet a lot of new people? How many people go to a conference? Is it still snowing out? Is there a lot of ice on the road? Have you seen any penguins yet at the museum?
Have a nice day and a safe trip home.....
Love
George

Happy Thursday 1 SW!
Dear 1 SW,
All is well here and I hope you are having a good day! Mrs. Euwer and I have been up early this morning getting our blogs ready for the day! Check out our pictures on the side!
The conference begins this morning with a speaker, and opening ceremony and then some classes. We have LOTS to do and we are looking forward to working hard! I am also looking forward to seeing lots of my old teacher friends from when I taught in Manhattan!
Be sure to Blog me when you get home! I'll send more messages and pictures later tonight when we get back to our room. Remember there is a 3 hour time difference, so it may be late when I answer your questions. You can always check in the morning!
I'm on the look out for penguinos out here!!! I'll post a picture if I find any!

Hi Heather:
Glad you had a wonderful flight to cold Seattle. I hope the kids were at the airport when you went inside the airport. If you have time just give Uncle Lenny a call-I know he will appreciate it.
All is well here and I leave today for Maryland. I will see you on Tuesday or Wednesday when I return. Enjoy your self and if there are materials you think would be helpful to my work purchase them for me and I will reimburse you.
We love you.

Hi Mr. Corvino!
Hi Mr. Corvino,
Thanks for logging on! You have officially made it to the BLOG world! We are having a nice time even though we get cranky and sleepy at about 5pm Seattle time. We have not gotten used to the time change, which is why I am up at 4:58am checking blog messages!
I watched the Green Bay/ Seattle game too and saw the snow. I should have turned back then...The schools are all closed here today because they had snow last night. There is hardly any on the ground by our standards, so we can't figure out what all the fuss is about. But, I guess they know what they are doing...
Today is the first big day and I am looking forward to going to a workshop called The Whole Educator. It's about how we address hiring people of color, retaining them, designing facutly meetings, and encourging diversity at the adult level when people are uncomfortable and unwilling. It should be interesting, to say the least. Then I am going to one called Starting Conversations That Matter in the Classroom.
Mrs. Euwer and I are splitting up because there are so many great workshops to go to. She is going to one on being a non person of color ally. It's really an incredible convention. You would love it. Nextyear it's in Boston and Pingry should send a bunch of teachers. I'll stay home, I promise...One of these days I'm going to get myself together to come to this convention and present something... hold onto your hat!
I will tell Mrs. Euwer you said hello. Her head is spinning, but she is really enjoying it. We are working hard trying to keep up with our blogs! You can acces her blog from mine. Be sure you blog onto the NEW blog and not the old one. It will say Mrs. SW Goes to Seattle at the top. Then on the side you can see a link to Mrs. E's blog. Her class can help you log on.
See you soon!

All is well here. Sorry that Stephen is home sick. We may be sick by the time we get home because the weather is so much colder here! There is snow on the ground and they are expecting it to snow tonight! Oh dear...
We are having a good time. I will send you a post card from Seattle tomorrow, so you can see some of the things that are here. I hope to see Uncle Lenny tomorrow or Friday if we have time. We are pretty busy though.
Hope you feel better soon. Log on again and send me message if you have time.
Goodnight!

Hi George, Apurva, Jamie, Michael, Alexia
Hi Guys!!!
We are having a good time! The plane ride was long, long, long and there is snow on the ground here. But, we had a safe flight and watched good movies while we were flying for 6 hours.
When we got here, it was 11:30 am but our watches said 1:30pm. We are very tired right now, but it is only 7pm on Seattle's time. We are going to get in our beds soon, because our bodies are telling us it is 10pm!
The schools we were supposed to visit were closed for a snow day. We got a back pack filled with goodies from the convention already. I will show them to you when we home.
I am glad you all are having warm weather. I hope it will still be warm when we get home! They are expecting it to snow tonight, so we will have to see what waits for us ourside in the morning! Cross your fingers that the meteorologists are WRONG!
I miss you all too. Be good and help Mrs. Summa a lot! I will tell you more about my day tomorrow when the conference really starts.
Nighty, night!

Hi to Joy!
Hey,
We have taken a couple of pictures and are trying to figure out how to upload them. Pray for us... it's freezing, but we have good coats and are ready to go. It's late at home and we are sleepy, but here it is only 7:00. We have to wait for the upperschool kids to come from a PoCC play. More tomorrow...

Did you take a big warm coat?
Hi Mrs. SW!
I would love to know what the meteorologists in Seattle are saying about the snow there and the warm temperatures here. It's going to be in the sixties again tomorrow, however it will be in the 40s by the time your plane lands at Newark Airport on Saturday. At least you'll have your coat with you.
I'm looking forward to seeing your photos and hearing all about the conference. 1SW and 3E are so lucky to have you and Mrs. Euwer!
Take care,
Joy

Hi Heather,
Glad the plane trip out was fine. I know it's fun to get away! Look for my friend Kankunda Klingenberg or some other folks from St. Patrick's Episcopal Day School in Washington, DC. I'm sure Kankunda is there. This blog was a fun idea. I know your class likes reading about what is happening. Stephen is still running a fever, so he'll be home again tomorrow and we'll check the blog again. OK, have fun and tell Diana I said hello!
Love,
Krista

Hi Aunt Heather,
I am sending you another message, because Mom just realized my first message was on your blog from last year! We are glad you got to Seattle safe and sound. I am home sick from school today, so I was able to write you a message. I would like to go there and see the Seattle Supersonics play basketball. Krista Ann says hi and Mom says to keep warm and have fun.
Love,
Stephen

Hello to Anna
Hi Anna!
My plane ride was LONG, but just fine. We watched a movie on the way out here and then I read a book and ate a blueberry muffin!
We got to Seattle at 11:30 Seattle time, but 1:30 NJ time. We were hungry and tired from sitting so long. It took us about an hour to get to our hotel and then we walked 3 blocks to the convention center and registered for the conference. When you register, they give you a backpack with the NAIS logo on it, a poster, a water bottle, a list of all the people at the conference, a list of all the workshops, speakers and classes, maps and a gift card for Starbucks Coffee! I will show it to you when I get back.
It is cold out here and they are expecting it to SNOW tonight! I am hoping that this is one time that the meteorologist is WRONG! We brought winter coats, hats and gloves though, so we should be nice and warm! I ate the most delicious mushroom soup for lunch and bought some great tea bags!!
I will do more things tomorrow. I am looking forward to seeing lots of my friends that I taught with from Manhattan and NJ, and friends that I went to graduate school with. I hope to get to the aquarium on Thursday or Friday. I'll tell you more tomorrow!
Thanks for the blog message! I miss you too! Say hi to mom for me, and thank her for helping out with the bake sale on Friday! More tomorrow!
Love,
Ms. SW

Hi Lloydo!
Hi,
We're having lots of fun! We had a great LONG trip on the plane, but it was nice and relaxing! We each had our own little DVD player where we could watch movies. I watched a movie called The Devil Wears Prada. They also had Jingle All The Way, which is your favorite! I'll watch that on the way home on Saturday!
Mrs. Euwer's room is bigger than mine and it's much warmer because her heat was on and mine wasn't. I think I am going to have to send Old Kick Cow in there to get her...
Be good and don't sleep in my bed while I am gone! More later...
Love,
Mom

Hello Ms. Smith-Willis
How was your airplane ride to Seattle? What have you been doing today? I hope Seattle is going well. We miss you at school. Love, Anna
It's COLD in Seattle!!! Snow is coming, too!
Hi Clyde,
Thanks for the blog!!!! You are the first one to send me a message! All is well here. We got here at 1:30 your time and 11:30 Seattle time! We were hungry for lunch and everyone here was eating bacon and eggs!
We had a great trip and there is a little bit of snow on the ground. The schools we were supposed to visit were closed today because they had a snow day! Can you believe that? Luckily, we all brought big winter coats!
Yaadira, Ariel and Godfrey are really nice kids and we are having a good time getting to know them. Yaadira asked about YOU Clyde, first thing this morning! I promise to tell her you said hello! She and the others are at the indoor pool at our hotel right now.
Mrs. Euwer and I had the best mushroom soup we've ever had! We are trying to fill our tummies with something warm, since it's cold out here! I also bought some really cool tea bags at the little store where I had the soup!
Hope you all had a good day at school! Write to me again when you have time. I will tell you more tomorrow. I hope to get to the aquarium tomorrow or Friday. We have a lot of workshops to go to, but I promise to get there and send back a picture!
Be helpful and nice to Mrs. Summa! More later...
